Loukas’ career began more than 25 years ago at British Telecom (BT), just as the digital revolution was gaining momentum. His time at BT provided firsthand experience in how technology can reshape industries and drive business transformation and prepared him for his first pivot towards tech startups and SMEs in Europe and Eurasia in the early 2000’s .

Over the next 20 years, he progressed to leadership positions in multiple geographies at major firms, including Nexign, Amdocs, Tech Mahindra, and Gentrack as well as his first CEO tenures in SMEs. These roles offered him invaluable insights and lessons on how to bring to market and profitably scale emerging - at the time - technologies such as digital marketplaces, IoT, Fintech, Blockchain. It was during his first CEO tenure in Romania that Loukas understood the importance and emergence of cybersecurity as a crucial guardian of business stability and growth and that is a lesson that he has carried for the last 10 years. 

His global business experience, while living in 15 countries over 30 years, working for companies of different sizes that played different roles in a tightly interconnected global business value chain became one of his greatest strengths, allowing him to anticipate market shifts, drive innovation on a global scale and deliver concrete business outcomes.

Pioneering AI, Cybersecurity & MedTech Advancements

Loukas has long championed AI’s potential to revolutionize industries. Anticipating the crucial role of CPS systems in smart cities, healthcare, oil & gas as well as financial services, and following a Middle East regional CPS breach in 2017, Loukas has been advocating for almost a decade on the integration of AI/ML into cybersecurity, ensuring that cyber-physical systems (CPS) remain secure for the future. Beyond security, he has also explored AI’s transformative role in fintech, going back to the early days of omnichannel strategies in digital banking. He envisions a future where AI-powered financial platforms are not merely tools but self-sustaining systems capable of managing assets, mitigating risks, and making informed decisions in real time. From algorithmic trading to decentralized finance (DeFi), Loukas sees AI as the key to unlocking the next phase of financial evolution.

His contributions to medtech are equally cutting-edge. Going back to the late 90’s and his work in a team that published the first application of DNA sequencing & early ML-algorithms for the detection of Tuberous sclerosis, he has been recently working in advancing genomics, analytics and AI-driven diagnostics towards personalized medicine and significant improvement of mental health treatments—fields poised to redefine healthcare. In that sense, the 2025 Financial Services Thought Leadership Global Award, the 2023 DX Inspire Global Award for Innovation Ecosystems, and my inclusion in the 2021 UK CIO 100 hold great significance, as they reflect industry-wide recognition of my impact beyond individual tenures.

At the same time, my involvement with the AI for Developing Nations Forum and my selection as an Ambassador at the AI Frontier Network are just as meaningful—if not more. As leaders, we have an obligation to foster a more inclusive and innovative future, which begins with education and openness in technological advancement,” he said.
